NORTHEAST LANGCHIVE
Advancing scholarship on Northeast India’s indigenous languages through rigorous research and open access publishing
Our Mission
Northeast Langchive publishes peer-reviewed scholarly books that advance understanding of Northeast India’s indigenous languages, their documentation, revitalization, and technological futures.
We bridge academic research with community needs, making cutting-edge scholarship freely accessible to researchers, educators, and linguistic communities across the region and beyond.
THE CHALLENGE
Why Northeast Langchive?
Northeast India is home to over 220 languages from multiple language families, representing extraordinary linguistic diversity. Yet this region remains critically underrepresented in academic publishing. Many languages face endangerment, with limited documentation, minimal technological resources, and restricted access to research that could support preservation efforts.
Existing academic publishers often overlook this region due to perceived market limitations, creating barriers for scholars working on these languages. High publication costs and paywalled access further disconnect research from the communities it should serve.
OUR APPROACH
How We Work
We publish rigorous, peer-reviewed research while eliminating financial and access barriers. All publications are open access under Creative Commons licensing, with no author fees. Our editorial board combines international expertise with deep regional knowledge, ensuring scholarly excellence and cultural sensitivity.
We prioritize interdisciplinary work that connects linguistics, language technology, anthropology, and community practice. Our publications serve academic audiences while remaining accessible and relevant to language activists, educators, and community members.
